We are looking for an experienced manager with drive, enthusiasm and resilience to take direct responsibility for the professional management of the council’s corporate operational risk and insurance function. The Risk & Insurance Team operates within the Assurance Group of the Chief Executive’s Department, managing and overseeing the council’s insurance arrangements. These include procuring suitable insurance policies, handling claims made against the council and providing risk management support and input into major projects.

You will manage the day-to-day activities of the Team and you will work with the group manager to help maintain a strongly risk-focused culture in a council that is ambitious for the future.

The council’s arrangements for corporate risk management are under review, presenting an opportunity for the role of the Risk & Insurance Team to be enhanced and focal to the authority’s core process.

The council looks to the person in this post to be a trusted and dependable advisor to members and senior managers across the organisation on all matters relating to operational risk and insurance. You will also play a key role in the development and delivery of risk management training in the council.

You will bring your demonstrable experience and knowledge of insurance markets and claim handling processes to deliver an effective, timely and efficient service. You will have a sound understanding of the insurable risks facing a modern county council and best practice approaches to addressing them. You will need to deliver the role with confidence, tact and sensitivity as you lead the team in being pro-active with a range of professionals working in both front-line and support services.

The county council is committed to modernising its buildings, working practices and technology to enable employees to work flexibly, where and when it suits our customers and service users. Our staff have more choice about where and when they work, connected by more effective technology enabling teams to work together, regardless of location.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.
