The Registration and Celebratory Service strives to deliver the best possible service to customers registering their most significant life events with us: births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships or gaining citizenship; as well as producing accurate legal records and certificates of those events.

To help us achieve our ambition of continuing to deliver an exceptionally high level of customer service, we need to fill 2 vacant posts of 22.5 hours/3 days each.

The Registration Support Officer is a front-line role vital to all our services: first point of contact for the majority of customers; providing clerical and administrative support to their team (and others) to ensure the smooth running of the office/service. Daily tasks include making appointments and booking ceremonies; searching of electronic records and production of copy certificates; dealing with a range of financial and procurement issues; helping customers and stakeholders on a wide range of issues face to face, by telephone or in writing; providing the highest standards of customer service at all times. There is also the requirement to be trained to register and conduct marriages and civil partnerships in the office, helping out as and when needed.

Skills and personal attributes you will need: 

  • The highest levels of accuracy and attention to detail
  • A high standard of written and spoken English
  • Confident communication skills with customers from all walks of life, including speaking to large groups
  • A good level of numeracy
  • Competence in the use of a range of IT systems
  • Adherence to strict rules of confidentiality and working within the Data Protection Act
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Strongly customer focussed
  • Courteous, tactful, enthusiastic, and innovative
  • A flexible worker within a small team
