Nottinghamshire Registration and Celebratory Service aims to deliver the best possible service to customers registering the most significant events in life; births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships or gaining citizenship. In addition, we offer a range of non-statutory services for those celebrating other milestone occasions such as renewal of vows or child naming.

The role of Ceremony Usher is vital to ensure the timely and smooth running of ceremonies held in our busy registration offices. So, if you enjoy working with the public, are available on Saturdays, and can work often long and demanding days you could become a valued member of our team.

The role is rewarding but does require stamina along with good organisational, problem solving and time-management skills. You will need a co-operative and flexible approach to work as a small team in this busy environment. Adherence to strict rules of confidentiality and working within the General Data Protection Regulations are also key elements.

We are looking for Ushers to join us providing cover on a rota basis throughout the year but predominantly in the Summer months. You will assist the Registrars, welcome guests, guide them, and provide excellent levels of customer service at Mansfield Registration Office, predominantly on Saturdays during peak season (April – October) though it could be at any time of year subject to demand. You will also be required to undertake light cleaning duties to keep everywhere looking neat and tidy from the first to the last ceremony of the day.

We offer an inherently rewarding position where on the job training will be provided, with a package of benefits that includes an enhanced rate of pay for weekend working and pay in lieu of annual leave.

Skills, experience, or abilities you will need are:

  • Confident speaker, able to project your voice
  • Have the experience or ability to be great at crowd control
  • Presentably dressed
  • Organised
  • Sensitive, yet able to assert authority when needed
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Courteous
  • Tactful and discreet
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and innovative
  • Used to dealing with time pressures
  • Set a personally high standard of customer service
  • Ability to work as a team

The Registration Service is keen to have a more representative and diverse workforce and would welcome male applicants and those of black and minority ethnicity as we are underrepresented in those and other key areas.

For further information please contact Kath Wharmby or Natasha Mellors on 0115 8041132.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
