Eskdale Junior is an outstanding school with a team of hardworking and dedicated staff. We are seeking to appoint a suitably skilled and committed Teaching Assistant to work 16 hours per week (mornings). We are also looking to appoint for 12.5 hours (afternoons).  

The post is to support SEND children's attainment and progress in literacy and numeracy in KS2, both in class and at homework club. The successful candidate will work alongside the school SENDco, class teachers and existing support staff, modifying working work to meet the current and emerging needs of the child/ren in their care.

We require someone to join our team who is; enthusiastic; has a commitment to teamwork and their own professional development; has a sense of humour; high expectations and good communication skills. 

In addition to this:

• encourages positive active learning

• has a sound understanding of the KS2 curriculum, especially with regard to literacy, numeracy and personalised learning

• has a good working knowledge of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice

• has the ability to work with a child with a range of additional needs in a caring and sensitive way in partnership with the school and family to ensure the development of the pupil

• work closely with the SENDCo and class team through the assess/plan/do/review model

• work actively as part of a team

• has a calm, patient manner with excellent behaviour management skills

• has a good understanding of a range of additional needs including: Autistic Spectrum Disorder

• can be flexible to be able to deviate from plans when required and be able to pre-empt situations and act accordingly
