The Fountaindale Physical Disability Support Service is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed person to provide Manual Handling assessment, training and support for school staff within this well established team, whose core function is to work with schools to improve access to education for Nottinghamshire children and young people with complex physical and medical needs.

Safe Handling Advisers have a caseload of children and schools, including early years settings, that they support. They provide detailed risk assessments and safe systems of work relating to the safe handling of disabled children whilst at school. They advise schools regarding the care needs and health care planning of these children and make recommendations regarding required specialist equipment. They also work with the authority’s Access Officer in advising on appropriate school building adaptations.

You will need to have a highly analytical approach, enjoy complex and detailed casework and have excellent communication and interaction skills.

Education to at least NVQ 3 in Childcare/Education is essential. A relevant accredited trainer’s certificate (eg. IOSH) would be an advantage. You will need to develop an awareness of the SEN framework and legislation relative to Health and Safety and Disability.
