A position has arisen within Payroll Services for a Payroll Practitioner, responsible for providing first line supervision and support to a group of Payroll Assistants delivering multiple payrolls to a wide number of clients.

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated payroll professional, flexible and able to work under pressure during the busy times of payroll processing. A strong team mentality and experience of supporting and helping colleagues is essential. The ideal candidate will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude.

Nottinghamshire County Council Payroll Services provides payroll services to a wide number of clients, including the Council payroll and a number of sold service clients including schools, academies, pension bodies and external clients.

The role of Practitioner is to provide first line support and supervision to a team of Payroll Assistants in the production of payrolls, and working closely with peer Practitioners as well as Senior Practitioners and the Payroll Manager. The post holder will be required to effectively communicate and provide guidance, advice and information on all Payroll matters.

The key roles of the Practitioner are;

  • direct supervision of a team of payroll assistants
  • coordinating and leading on changes, such as a TUPE transfers of staff, onboarding of new clients, changes in national pay agreements, etc.
  • providing advice and support to employees and colleagues on complex payroll matters
  • working closely with other payroll teams, including Payroll Control and the SAP Competency Centre
  • implementing change with a positive attitude, ensuring that training needs are met and appropriate documentation is maintained

The ideal candidate would have experience working within an HR or Payroll Service function dealing with payroll administration matters. Experience of supervising and supporting a team and working in a customer focused environment is also desirable.
