Would you like this great opportunity to ‘dip your toes’ in being lead of the Focus Provision (2 days a week) with the support of an experienced Lead Teacher of the Deaf? (With the possibility in the future of leading the provision full time). 

Do you have high expectations and are you committed to improving outcomes for deaf young people? Would you welcome the opportunity to be working within a well-established Primary Focus Provision, working directly with deaf pupils and their families? 

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced teacher who can provide an outstanding education and promote the inclusion of deaf children within Firbeck Academy. Who is committed to continual professional development and exploring innovative ways of working? 

The focus provision has been identified by OFSTED as being’ a strength within the school’ and we are looking for a dynamic committed individual to build on its success. 

Applications are welcomed from qualified teachers of the deaf, with level 2 BSL. 

The Successful Candidate will: 

• be a qualified teacher who holds the mandatory qualification for a teacher of the deaf
• have proven experience of teaching deaf children preferably in the early years, KS1 and KS2
• have an up to date working knowledge of the SEND code of practice
• have up to date knowledge and understanding of curriculum and assessment expectation in early years and primary settings
• be able to model language, spoken and in BSL, appropriate to the needs of all the deaf children or be willing to learn BSL.

Focus Provision for Deaf Children 

Firbeck Academy Focus Provision for deaf children specifically caters for the needs of deaf children as an integral part of the mainstream school. It provides support from a range of specialist staff that ensures the needs of the deaf pupils are fully met within the daily life of the school. The culture and ethos of the school promotes the inclusion and achievement of deaf children. The Focus Provision is staffed with 2 teachers of the deaf and specialist teaching assistants and has dedicated spaces for teaching and learning.
