The Newark & Bassetlaw START Team aims to maximise the independence of people who are struggling with activities of daily living due to injury or illness. This in turn helps to prevent or reduce the need for ongoing support or residential care, by supporting people to remain safe and independent in their own homes for as long as possible.

Peripatetic Reablement Support Workers (known as “Peris”) are staff with previous domiciliary care services experience who have enhanced skills and training in order to set up initial packages of care; making initial assessment s of the service user and the home environment to ensure that the planned service can be safely delivered. They set initial goals in conjunction with the service user and are responsible for completing individualised risk assessments and medication administration paperwork.

Peris also provide scheduled “on call” support to support staff outside of office hours.

Applications are invited from people who are:

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in working with older people in their own homes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the effects of ageing and ill health.
  • Flexible and able to work on their own initiative
  • A reliable team member yet confident working on their own.
  • Able to produce good written information
  • Calm, caring and considerate.
  • Able to problem solve and make decision based on relevant evidence and information.

The service is registered with the Care Quality Commission. All Peris are expected to have or work toward the NVQ level III (or equivalent) in Social Care.

Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Staff must have use of a car for work.

Your work rota will reflect the need to provide services 7 days a week, on a four on/four off rota pattern between the hours of 7am & 10pm.

All applicants must have a full driving licence and access to a car for all duties.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
