Clayfields House is a secure children’s home run by Nottinghamshire County Council. We care for up to 20 young people between 10 and 18 years who come to us from all over England and Wales. Young people are placed with us either on youth justice grounds for criminal matters or for welfare reasons because they are seriously unsafe in the community. Nearly always our young people have had a very difficult care history and lots of traumatic experiences. We provide full time secure care, education, risk reduction programmes and physical and mental health services on site. We help these very vulnerable but also very complex and challenging young people turn their lives around. The work isn’t easy. Our staff group are very dedicated and skilled, they need to be very resilient to cope with the day to day challenges these young people present. The personal rewards for staff are though great. There really is nothing like knowing that you are part of helping some of the most complex young people in the country achieve positive change in their lives against all the odds.

We are looking for a Subject Leader and Teacher of ICT and Careers to join our Education Department. Your teaching groups will never be more than 4 and you will be part of an Education Department that has been rated as Outstanding or Good by Ofsted for over a decade. We are especially keen to hear from candidates who would be able to take a lead in progressing the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. This post is available from January 2020 but we want to recruit as soon as possible so that the successful candidate can benefit from our detailed staff induction.

Shortlisted candidates will need to demonstrate:

  • Qualified teacher status.
  • High level knowledge of curriculum requirements in Key Stages 3 and 4 for ICT and careers.
  • High level knowledge and understanding of the needs of pupils with complex social, emotional, behavioural and mental health needs.
  • The ability to teach to a good standard and often outstanding level.
  • The ability to lead ICT and Careers as subject areas within the centre.
  • High expectations for pupil achievement.
  • Complete commitment to equality of opportunity and the elimination of discrimination, harassment and victimisation.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to visit the centre prior interview.

Please note that, in common with all other teachers, the Secure Unit Allowance and Work Place Allowance (Community Homes Allowance) allowances will be modernised in the future to reflect an SEN Allowance for teaching children who predominantly experience special educational needs and a TLR for curriculum leadership – the value of allowances will not change.

Current days of working are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but these are subject to change. School holidays apply but may be at slightly different times to mainstream schools.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
