You will be responsible for completing Family and Friends fostering assessments with connected persons/kinship carers. The assessment process will involve undertaking Part 1 assessments to explore and assess initial suitability for carers to be temporary approved as Family and Friends Foster Carers, and then more detailed Part 2 assessments (up to 24 weeks) to consider their suitability to become fully approved foster carers. Where connected persons/kinship carers are also interested in applying for a Special Guardianship Order for the child(ren) in their care, as a supervising social worker, you will be responsible for producing this assessment, jointly with the child’s social worker, as part of care proceedings.

Alongside assessment work, you will also be responsible for supporting and supervising approved Family and Friends’ foster carers; this aspect of the role will involve undertaking monthly, reflective supervisions to carers to ensure they are providing high quality therapeutic care to the children they are looking after. You will be responsible for ensuring Family and Friends foster carers are adhering to National Minimum Standards and have a good understanding of expectations required from them as foster carers.

As a Family and Friends supervising social worker out of county travel may be required.
