Procurement in Local Government has never been more important than it is today. The current economic climate brings new challenges to both the public and private sectors.  This means as a council we need to use our spending power wisely and strategically to ensure that we support the economic, social and environmental wellbeing of our citizens and communities.

Procurement has a key role to play in ensuring that the Council continues to deliver high quality services to our residents, working in partnership and collaboration with commissioners and our key partners to realise joint benefits, supporting the local economy and providing opportunities for businesses to engage with the Council.

We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and tenacious individual who has the ability and commitment to focus on the achievement of outcomes as a member of cross-functional teams.

Based at County Hall, West Bridgford, Nottingham, the Policy & Strategy Officer will be responsible for ensuring that procurement plans/policies/projects and strategies are developed, implemented, monitored and reported on to underpin the delivery of an excellent procurement service.

The post holder will play a pivotal role in the development of procurement policy and strategy and the development, implementation, maintenance and roll out of procurement systems and tools to support the efficient and effective management of the procurement function to help meet the targets set out in the Councils’ Strategic Plan. The post holder will also support the development of a range of new income generation initiatives and help embed the commercial model whilst working to maintain relationships forged through related innovative income generation concepts and opportunities.

The successful candidate will be a high-calibre, experienced individual with sound analytical skills and relevant policy and strategy development and implementation experience. They will also have excellent communication skills and have the ability to engage effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.

This is a first class opportunity to join a dynamic team and to positively contribute towards the delivery of the Council’s savings and efficiency targets.
