The Public Health division at Nottinghamshire County Council commissions a range of Public Health services and works with other organisations to improve health and wellbeing in the population and to reduce health inequalities. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated person to join the team in the Public Health Division at Nottinghamshire County Council.

This is a fixed term post, initially for a period of 18 months, to provide cover for the existing post holder who is on long-term sick. Subject to changes in the circumstances of the existing post holder, this opportunity could end early or be extended or be made permanent.

Specific areas that the role will cover include a range of Smoking and Tobacco control elements – including prevention, treating tobacco dependency, health promotion and effective communication, regulation of tobacco products and extending smoke free environments or other public health assignments appropriate to the role.

You will be qualified to degree level in Public Health or a related subject, or with equivalent demonstrable experience in public health practice, with a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the role that the social, economic, and environmental factors play in shaping healthy and sustainable places.

You will have excellent communication and partnership working skills and be able to develop relationships with colleagues from across the county council and local or national partner organisations in different sectors in a complex partnership working environment. You will be accountable to a Public Health and Commissioning Manager and have a flexible approach to adapt to specific work areas within the smoking and tobacco portfolio.

The council has adopted a hybrid working strategy, enabling staff to use a blended approach of home and office working that suit individuals’ circumstances and business need. The formal office base for this post is County Hall, West Bridgford, or Meadow House, Mansfield, which you will be expected to work from as and when required.

Nottinghamshire County Council has an NHS Pension Direction Order in place, which means that we are able to provide ongoing access to the NHS Pension Scheme (NHSPS) where we recruit eligible new joiners to public health roles who are already in the NHSPS.
