Nottinghamshire County Council Building Cleaning Service in conjunction with College House Junior School requires a new Caretaker. Working a 30 hour week you will be required to clean and maintain the building and offer a range of caretaking services for the benefit of pupils, parents and staff.

College House School, which opened in 1951, is a large two-storey traditional building set in extensive grounds, standing impressively off Chilwell High Road. As is typical of such Nottinghamshire schools, the classrooms are entered from corridors that run the length of the building. We are fortunate to have large spaces devoted to ICT and music, a separate dining hall, and a large and well stocked library. There is also a hall with a traditional stage that is used for several performances throughout the year. The separate dining hall allows the use of the hall at all times of the school day.

The school serves the suburban communities of Chilwell, Beeston and Attenborough to the southwest of Nottingham. Parents are fully involved in all aspects of school life, with the Friends of College House Parents Association organising numerous events throughout the year. College House is a large junior school with around 285 pupils on roll. This year the school is working in collaboration with Meadow Lane Infant School. Currently there are 10 classes, divided into 2 Year 3 classes, 1 Year 3/4 class, 2 Year 4 classes, 3 Year 5 classes and 2 Year 6 classes.

Working a split shift you will be a key holder and will be expected to deliver the full range of caretaking, maintenance, janitorial and cleaning duties. You should have a keen eye for detail and be able to demonstrate a practical knowledge of DIY skills.

You will need to be smart in appearance, wearing a provided uniform and need to be flexible in your approach to lettings, for which additional payments will be made. We would want you to work positively with staff and parents and be a good team worker.

Previous experience of this type of work would be advantageous but ideally we are looking for someone with interest and a high degree of commitment to ensure a safe and healthy environment for staff, children and visitors to the school.

College House Junior School is a happy school, where children enjoy and achieve, expectations are high, individuals are valued, a wide range of educational opportunities are available to all, and partnership with parents is paramount. Staff work well in a team and are supportive of each other.

We are committed to protecting the well being of children following the ‘Safer Recruiting’ procedures when making appointments and therefore this post is subject to an enhanced CRB check, medical and satisfactory references.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.
