The Headteacher and governing body of Sutton Bonington Primary School wish to appoint a School Business Manager who is personable, enthusiastic and self-motivated to join a hard-working, friendly and effective staff team.

37 Hours Term Time Only - Hours:

Monday: 8:10am – 4:10pm

Tuesday: 8:15am – 4:10pm

Wednesday: 8:15am – 4:10pm

Thursday: 8:15am – 4:10pm

Friday: 8:15am – 4:00pm

  • There may be some flexibility around the exact times with 30 minutes for lunch

Previous experience of working in a school office is highly desirable and advantageous. The successful candidate must display the highest standards of business ethos with financial management, excellent administrative, communication and organisational skills.

Despite not being the largest school (165 pupils), the school environment is always very busy so the newly appointed School Business Manager would need to able to lead the office environment, work with distractions and make key decisions under pressure.

This is an exciting opportunity, as we will also be appointing an administrative assistant alongside this role. The School Business Manager would be able to manage and arrange for collaborative working with their newly appointed colleague. You would work closely and be supported by the Headteacher, teaching staff and Senior Leadership team for this role.

The successful candidate would be responsible for the following areas: finance, office, Human Resources, ICT, Site and Health and Safety.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Leadership and Management: To promote the school and raise its profile with a variety of stakeholders and to liaise with outside agencies and to contribute to the overall aims, targets and values of the school. To line manage fellow office personnel and to delegate appropriately so that the office functions effectively. To assist the Headteacher in the preparation of governing body meetings by preparing minutes and financial reports.

  • Financial Management: To be responsible for the setting and apportionment of the Annual School Budget of £900 000 after consultation with the Headteacher. To accurately monitor budgetary expenditure throughout the year and to provide detailed reports for the Headteacher and Governing Body. To be responsible for the payroll service for all personnel within school.

  • Office Management and Administration: To manage the reception area of the school and to be personable by treating all visitors and parents with courtesy and greet them in a professional manner. To be responsible for the safe storage of staff and pupil records and to understand the implications of the data protection act.

  • Health and Safety management: To be the schools Health and Safety leader and to undertake all necessary tasks within this remit

  • Human Resource Management: To be responsible for HR matters and the single central record within school and to advise the Governing Body on HR processes, policies and procedures.

  • Information and communication technology: To liaise with the school technician to resolve any software and hardware issues in the school and to be responsible for the updating of the school website in conjunction with the Headteacher and SLT. 

The advertised role is a full time position, with a preferred start date of Monday 2nd November. Actual working hours can be discussed in further detail at interview.
