The Big House is an 8 bedded home providing short breaks for children and young people who have a significant learning disability, combined with manifestations of challenging and complex behaviour. The service also offers day care. The children and young people are school age, up to 18 years old and attend their own school. They have an individual allocation of nights per year based on their assessed needs. The children and young people are assigned a key worker, who will undertake individual key work sessions with them. It is a highly specialised home where the staff team work alongside parents and carers as well as other professional agencies daily.

The administrative team at the Big House consists of 2 part-time workers who work very closely supporting the care team. You will receive support and training, but experience of one or more of the following would be an advantage:

  • Minimum of 2 year’s Clerical/Admin Office experience.
  • Use of Microsoft packages including Office
  • Ability to produce reports and provide management information.
  • Reception duties

The following personal qualities and skills are also required:

  • Possessing good organisational skills.
  • The ability to monitor and maintain a healthy, safe and secure workplace.
  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • The flexibility to work under own initiative.
  • To be adaptable to change.
  • To have the ability to plan and co-ordinate own work and meet deadlines.
  • A strong commitment to task and self-motivation.

Demonstrating excellent customer service skills and communicating at all levels are essential, including the understanding of the concept of safeguarding of children and young people, whilst maintaining confidentiality and acting within the Data Protection Act (GDPR). You must be sensitive to the needs of service users and have an understanding of and commitment to the Nottinghamshire County Council Equal Opportunities Policy.
