We are looking to appoint an experienced Tutor to deliver a programme of English and Maths to Year 9 students. The successful candidate will be solely responsible for the planning and delivery of an intervention programme to small groups and on a 1:1 basis. The Skills Tutor will deliver the curriculum to North Ashfield students at various community locations across Kirkby and Sutton-in-Ashfield, and at the SPACE Learning Centre.

Reporting to the Director of the Trust, you will plan, deliver and assess an engaging and fun English and Maths curriculum to Year 9 students who have found it difficult to access mainstream education, preparing them appropriately for re-integration into a GCSE programme in Year 10. You will also have the opportunity to develop additional courses in areas that are of interest to you.

The role requires a motivated individual who can plan and manage their own time, and who is capable of working without direction on a daily basis.

It is essential that applicants have the appropriate level of qualification and experience to successfully deliver the English and Maths intervention programme, and will ideally have previous experience from a similar role. Prior knowledge of alternative provision would be an advantage, as would the ability to deliver additional subjects.

An opportunity to join our dynamic provision

The Trust is the incorporation of the School Behaviour and Attendance Partnership (SBAP) in North Ashfield. To date, the partnership between Ashfield School, Kirkby College, Quarrydale Academy and Sutton Community Academy has been extremely effective in lowering permanent exclusion rates and supporting young people at risk of permanent exclusion. However, our work isn’t exclusively about behaviour; we support students from a variety of backgrounds, and with a wide range of issues that often make access to mainstream education a challenging prospect.

The partnership established the highly successful SPACE Learning Centre over four years ago, providing intervention and alternative education to young people in North Ashfield. Owing to the introduction of a new GCSE programme, the centre expanded in 2016. This appointment arises from a need to support ‘at risk’ students in Year 9.
