Nottinghamshire County Council is seeking to appoint a dynamic and innovative Consultant in Public Health, with strong technical and leadership skills and a real commitment to improving population health.

Nottinghamshire is a diverse County, consisting of a mix of urban and rural areas, with significant areas of deprivation and health challenges. You will join a Council with engaged political leadership, an active Health and Wellbeing Board, and a commitment to cross council and partnership working which delivers great outcomes for people in Nottinghamshire.

You will become part of a varied and friendly Public Health Division, led by the Director of Public Health and four other Consultants in Public Health, comprising of over 60 colleagues.

As a result of the near-term pressures of COVID-19 response, together with a commitment to strengthen the public health team for the opportunities beyond, we now offer this exciting and challenging opportunity. In the first 6-12 months or so, you will lead aspects of local outbreak management as part of our joint working with our Local Resilience Forum partners. Later you will lead a team and take responsibility for a portfolio of work which, in common with other members of the senior team, is likely to cover all three public health domains.

For this challenging role we are seeking candidates with vision, energy, and initiative. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build effective partnerships, and lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver public health strategies in complex environments. Your written communication for a non-specialist audience is impactful and precise. You demonstrate a high order of technical specialist skills on the occasions this is required.

Essential requirements for the post are inclusion in the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register/General Dental Council (GDC) Specialist List/UK Public Health Register (UKPHR) for Public Health Specialists, or if not yet on the Register, ability to provide evidence that the candidate is within six months of qualifying for registration from the date of interview.

You will be primarily based at County Hall, West Bridgford but with the option to work from an alternative base at Meadow House, Mansfield. Depending on personal circumstances, staff are being asked to work remotely from home during the current context of the pandemic.

Nottinghamshire County Council has an NHS Pension Direction Order in place, which means that we are able to provide ongoing access to the NHS Pension Scheme (NHSPS) where we recruit eligible new joiners to public health roles who are currently in the NHSPS.

What is communicated in your application should be to a high standard of written English and accuracy.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Jonathan Gribbin, Director of Public Health, jonathan.gribbin@nottscc.gov.uk.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
