Adoption East Midlands holds panels which consider whether prospective adopters are suitable to adopt and whether children should be matched with prospective adopters. The panels make recommendations to the Agency Decision Maker (ADM).

Our adoption panels are made up of a range of people who have personal or professional experience relevant to adoption. We have strong core values and our panels offer independent scrutiny and quality assurance to the adoption agency and our partner local authorities, with a focus on meeting the needs of children who cannot live with their birth family.

We hold panels on behalf of Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. Panels take place in four locations across the region – Matlock, Derby City Centre, Nottingham Station and West Bridgford.

Become an Adoption Panel Member

We welcome expressions of interest from people with recent adoption experience to join our panels. We are recruiting for social work representatives, independent panel members and two vice chairs.  We’re particularly interested in strengthening the range and diversity of our knowledgeable panels with:

-          people who have been adopted or are care experienced

-          people whose family has been affected by adoption

-          men with adoption experience

-          people from a BAME background

-          people who can offer a perspective from the LGBTQ+ community

-          people from a wide age range

For the vice chair role, we are seeking someone with previous adoption panel experience.  We welcome expressions of interest from people who have experience chairing meetings and would be able to deputise for a Chair.

If you are interested in becoming a panel member please apply below.

If your expression of interest is accepted, you will be invited in for further discussion on or around 3rd March 2020.

Please note that if you are an adoptive parent and were either approved by Adoption East Midlands or had a child placed with you or were approved by Derby City, Derbyshire, Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire then at least one year must have passed since an adoption order has been granted to you. You can not be an independent panel member if this does not apply or if you are prospective adopter for any of the aforementioned agencies.

If you have worked for any of these authorities, 12 months must have passed before you can be considered an Independent Panel Member.
