The Leaving Care service work with care leavers from the age of 16 and we are looking to recruit an Achievement Adviser. The role of an achievement adviser is to promote the access of looked after children (16/17yr olds) and care leavers aged 18 - 24 years to appropriate employment, education and/or training provision that meets their needs, raises aspirations and enhances employability potential.

Applicants will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to form positive sustainable relationships with a diverse group of young people.

The applicant should have previous experience and skills in working with young people aged 16-24 in relation to employment, education and training; and have knowledge of employment, education and training pathways for young people aged 16 – 24 years and some understanding of support that can be offered to looked after children and care leavers.

Ideally you will have skills in advocacy, negotiation and working with other agencies, colleges and training providers to promote achievement opportunities for young people whilst ensuring their needs are met.

You will be committed to supporting young people to reach their full potential, and to develop an effective working relationship in order to motivate and support care leavers to engage in education, training and employment, and have the necessary emotional resilience and skills for independence.

You need to be able to work independently (with ongoing support and supervision being provided); and be part of a very supportive team.

We are a countywide service and operate smarter working so some of this role will be based working at home and there is some flexibility for this post to spend time at other offices..  However, this post is identified as primarily Nottinghamshire North based with care leavers 18 - 24 years old.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
