The Head Teacher and Governors are seeking to appoint a teaching assistant to work in our friendly and successful school. Our school is a warm welcoming community who are committed to ensuring our children ‘Learn, grow, achieve, together’.

You will be expected to have a flexible and creative approach to situations, be a great team member and communicator, but above all have a passion in supporting the wellbeing and development of our children.

Are you a caring and proactive Teaching Assistant, able to provide enthusiasm and intuitive support to promote the inclusion, learning and the personal development of an individual pupil in our Reception with specific learning and sensory needs? Can you be an advocate for a child with Special Educational Needs, ensuring the highest care, support and provision possible?

You will be expected to create an inclusive learning environment, working alongside the teacher to plan an innovative and developmentally appropriate bespoke curriculum. You will have experience of working with a variety of children with individual needs and have an understanding of Autistic Spectrum Condition, and sensory needs. 

You must be able to:

  • aid pupils to learn as effectively as possible both in group situations and on their own, this will involve clarifying and explaining instructions, including the use of visual prompts and signs and symbols
  • ensure the adaptation of resources, equipment, and materials, working with initiative and creative thought at all times
  • motivate and encourage, providing high levels of attention, reassurance and support
  • support progress in speech, language, and communication
  • use praise, commentary and assistance to encourage concentration and resilience
  • liaise with class teacher, SENCO, parents, and outside agencies/professionals regarding individual education plans and progress reviews
  • contribute to planning and delivery of an exciting, broad and innovative curriculum
  • consistently and effectively implement agreed behaviour management strategies
  • help to make and facilitate appropriate resources to support pupils
  • establish supportive relationships, promoting acceptance and inclusion
  • modify or adapt activities as agreed with the teacher to achieve intended learning outcomes.
  • provide positive encouragement, feedback, and praise to reinforce and sustain pupil’s efforts, and develop independence and self esteem
  • under the direction of the teacher, carry out and record systematic observations to gather evidence of knowledge, understanding and skills
  • carry out and apply positive handling techniques
  • take part in training activities offered by the school to further knowledge and skills of working with a child with specific learning difficulties
  • provide intimate care to ensure that all personal care needs are met throughout the day
