The Role

The North Ashfield Behaviour and Attendance Trust is the incorporation of the School Behaviour and Attendance Partnership (SBAP) in North Ashfield. To date, the partnership between Ashfield School, Kirkby College, Quarrydale Academy and Sutton Community Academy has been extremely effective in lowering permanent exclusion rates and supporting young people at risk of permanent exclusion. However, our work isn’t exclusively about behaviour; we support students from a variety of backgrounds, and with a wide range of issues that often make access to mainstream education a challenging prospect.

Our aim is to ensure that all young people in North Ashfield have the opportunity to access education and meet their potential. 

The partnership has established the highly successful SPACE Learning Centre, as a provider of intervention and alternative education in North Ashfield. Year on year the partnership has grown, as the demand for support from schools has increased. The Head of Centre role is pivotal to the collaborative work of the four schools, to ensure the quality of delivery is exceptional, and to continue the development of suitable curriculum pathways. The Head of Centre will lead the NABA Trust’s team of ten staff, who are based across two adjacent learning centres. 

Ideally, a leader with experience of alternative education or challenging education environments, the Head of Centre will be able to demonstrate that they are an innovative academic leader and an excellent administrator, with a passion to help young people fulfil their potential. 

QTS is essential for the post, as is a comprehensive understanding of on-going curriculum and qualification developments.

Purpose of the Post 

• To lead and manage the company (NABA Trust), with oversight of all operational matters including staff deployment, facilities, financial accountability and impact on learners
• To lead the strategic direction of the SPACE Learning Centre, establishing a vision for education and future development
• To lead the strategic direction of all programmes of alternative provision, and deployment of external alternative providers, in collaboration with the four schools of North Ashfield
• To ensure that programmes of study keep pace with current and future educational developments, and meet the needs of schools
• To set a high expectation for the quality of teaching and learning, and implement effective quality assurance
• To co-ordinate IAG across the four schools, in collaboration with specialist staff based at each school
• The Head of Centre must meet the requirements set out in the job description for all teachers other than Headteachers
• The Head of Centre must provide professional leadership for the Trust which secures its success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all its students and improved standards of learning and achievement
• The Head of Centre should provide leadership for the staff in the Trust, which ensures a consistency in the approach and application of trust policies, systems and procedures
• The Head of Centre also has the responsibility to secure high standards, as well as having a major role in ensuring improvement, innovation and transformation. Your role is to ensure that an excellent quality of education is provided which meets the needs and aspirations of all students and raises the standards of achievement throughout the schools involved
• The Head of Centre must identify and act upon the areas in need of development and improvement within their own responsibilities and recognise these in relation to the overall needs of the schools involved
• The Head of Centre should be an excellent role model for students and staff, leading by example, setting and maintaining high professional standards. They should be supportive, positive and professional in their relationships with students, staff, governors, parents/carers and the community
• The Head of Centre should be committed to a consultative, collaborative, teamwork approach to leadership
