We currently have a part time vacancy to join the Safer Highways Team working with the school crossing patrol service working 15 hours per week. The role involves supervision, training and support of the school crossing patrols, as well as assisting in the administration of the service. The successful candidate will also support road safety education as required. Excellent communication skills are an essential requirement as is the commitment to provide an excellent frontline service.

The main duties include:

  • Supervise and support allocated School Crossing Patrols (SCPs), including regular site visits and observations
  • Organise and provide site cover, especially in an emergency
  • Liaise with schools e.g. to notify parents of unstaffed sites etc.
  • Respond to health and safety site incidents, including attending site, providing support to SCP, notifying and assisting Police, and completing of relevant records.
  • Undertake traffic/pupil counts at SCP sites.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of SCPs
  • Work as part of a team, assisting in the monitoring, supervision and administration of the SCP service.
  • Maintain accurate office records, database and site files relating to the SCP service.
  • Arrange for site advertising of vacancies, distribution of uniforms and equipment
  • Provide support to the road safety education team

Candidates should have GCSE in English and Maths and be able to demonstrate an understanding of the importance of road safety. You will need to travel throughout the county to different school crossing sites, so it is essential for candidates to have their own transport, and candidates must be available at the “school run” times that School Crossing Patrols carry out their duties.
