Following the announced retirement of the current team manager, Nottinghamshire’s Support to Schools Service is seeking to appoint a suitably experienced member of staff to further develop and lead Governing Body Services for Nottinghamshire County Council. This post is available from 1 October, 2019.

This team manager will have a key role in sustaining and further developing this service, which provides key information, advice and guidance to Governing Bodies to support them to fulfil their core functions effectively. The service aims to work in partnership with other LA services and partners to ensure that every Nottinghamshire child and young person has access to a publicly funded school, which is good or outstanding and meets the needs of all children and young people.

Strand responsibilities of the Team Manager are reflected in the attached job description. We are therefore seeking an internal candidate with significant experience of strategic and operational support for governing bodies and a deep knowledge of current challenges facing governance of schools at this time. In particular, candidates need to demonstrate an understanding of:

  • the role of governors in relation to raising standards and improving progress for all pupils

  • responding to leadership and governance issues in educational establishments, operating within different governance arrangements in an increasingly school-led system

  • supporting Governing Bodies with the management of complex complaints

As the Council’s vision is implemented over the coming years, this post holder will play a key role in further developing new relationships with schools, academies, MATs and other external partners to ensure Nottinghamshire families access the best education possible.

Applicants should have extensive experience of the education sector, leading and managing a team of clerks to Governing Bodies.

Applications should be supported by 1000 words outlining your vision for effective governance in Nottinghamshire and outlining how your experience and skills will support the further improvement of education and opportunity in Nottinghamshire’s publicly funded schools.

Interested candidates who may wish to discuss this role further should telephone Jane Mansell, Team Manager, Governing Body Services on 01158 040 628.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.

Therefore, the County Council encourages applications from all, irrespective of gender, marital status, disability, race, religion, belief, pregnancy and maternity status, age or sexual orientation.
