The Public Health division at Nottinghamshire County Council commissions a range of Public Health services and works with other organisations to improve health and wellbeing in the population and reduce health inequalities.

We now have a 12-month fixed-term vacancy for an experienced public health or domestic abuse professional to join our team.

The role is to support the Local Authority to fulfil the anticipated new duty brought about by the Domestic Abuse Bill. Subject to Royal Assent, the Bill will create a statutory definition of domestic abuse, establish a Domestic Abuse Commissioner, and enhance legal processes. It will also place a duty on Local Authorities in England to provide support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children in refuges and other safe accommodation.

Key objectives the role will be responsible for delivering include:

  • Discussing the delivery of the new duty with local experts and stakeholders
  • Engaging with the members of the Domestic and Sexual Abuse executive to help identify and address potential challenges in implementation
  • Mapping providers across areas, including non-commissioned and specialist services
  • Reviewing existing governance structures and local strategies
  • Reviewing the current monitoring/service evaluation processes
  • Reviewing existing commissioning arrangements and co-production

Qualified to degree level (or able to demonstrate substantial experience equivalent in breadth and rigour to degree level), you will have relevant experience in Public Health or domestic abuse, as well as experience of building partnerships and working collaboratively with others.

You will be a good communicator with well-developed planning and problem-solving skills, highly organised and flexible.

Depending on individual circumstances, you will be primarily based remotely at home or at County Hall, Nottinghamshire.

This post may be available as a secondment opportunity for existing County Council employees. Applicants selected for interview should secure agreement from their manager for the secondment prior to interview
