Are you an experienced child care manager?

Do you want to make a difference to children and young people in Nottinghamshire?

This post is based within the Safeguarding, Assurance and Improvement Group which is part of the Commissioning and Resources Division of Children and Families.

The independent chair service plays a key role in providing quality assurance through independent scrutiny and challenge, ensuring that appropriate care plans are in place and being robustly progressed for children and young people looked after or subject to child protection plans.

This important post provides the leadership and management of the independent chair service, which comprises three groups of staff – Child Protection Coordinators (CPCs), Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) and Fostering Independent Reviewing Officers (FIROs). Currently 2.5 service managers provide direct line management to the group. One of these managers is reducing their working hours and another is taking secondment for six months; we are therefore seeking to employ a full-time service manager on a temporary basis to maintain the current managerial oversight for this service area.

Alongside responsibilities for the independent chair service you will form part of the leadership team of the Safeguarding Assurance and Improvement group and be involved at a strategic level in a range of activities across the Children and Families Department.

In order to meet the demands of these posts, you will already be an experienced manager in children’s social care with a proven track record of service improvement. You will also need to have outstanding organisational and communication skills, significant knowledge and experience of child protection and looked after children work, and an ability to lead and manage an experienced group of staff.

This is an exciting time to be part of leading the service through a period of change and a commitment to implementing strength-based practice. If you think this is the post for you, we look forward to seeing your application.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
