Working in ResOakhurst Residential Serviceidential Child Care is no ordinary job, and that’s why we’re looking for extraordinary people!

Do you want to be part of an amazing team of staff, all committed to making a real difference in the lives of young people? Oakhurst – a 4-bedded children’s home – is currently looking for an additional Residential Social Care Worker to join its team of staff. The team comes from a variety of backgrounds, but we’re all experienced, and very keen to support new team members.

As someone who’s already got experience of working with children and young people, you’ll understand that they very often come into care, with life experiences that have shaped their behaviour, their levels of confidence, and their sense of self-worth. So you’ll expect to see some challenging behaviour, but you’ll have the skills and experience to build on their strengths, and be aspirational about their future – so that, together, we can maximise their full potential.

You’ll have access to a range of CPD opportunities and, if you’ve not already got a Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare, we’ll support you in achieving this within your first year with us – it’s all a part of our commitment to developing your skills and your career pathway with us.  We do ask, though, that applicants have at least 6 months experience within residential child care or a related field, so that you’re not coming into the role unprepared.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting time for our Residential Service, as we’re just in the process of developing and expanding our service – and there’ll be some amazing career opportunities coming up very soon!  We’re embarking on a reshaping of our existing children’s homes – including a complete refurbishment of some of our current homes. We are also keen to accommodate children in smaller properties so that more of our children can live in a ‘typical family home’ and not in institutionalised ‘group living’ environments. A bespoke, innovative and purpose built home will also be established for children with complex difficulties.

Of course it’s the people that really make a house a home, so we will also be working to improve how we support the dedicated colleagues who are committed to changing young lives for the better. This is an exciting time to be joining the team.

Whilst we do operate a 24 hour a day service (which needs to cover evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays), we’ll obviously need you to work flexibly with us, we have a 4-week rolling rota, which gives you an opportunity to plan ahead and get a good work-life balance in place. Likewise, we will also accommodate your needs as far as possible.

In addition, our evening, weekend and bank holiday shifts attract enhanced payments – so this will significantly increase your basic salary every month.

So, if you have the same enthusiasm and passion as we do, for helping young people reach their full potential, then we’d love to hear from you. If you’d like to have an informal conversation about this role, you can contact the home’s manager Una.Wisdom2@nottscc.gov.uk and arrange this directly.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
