An opportunity has arisen for a Commons, Village Green and Definitive Map Officer to join a team of dedicated Countryside Access Officers, who are responsible for the management and recording of the County’s public rights of way network.  

You will process applications for Definitive Map Modification Orders and Town and Village Green (TVG) Applications, draft evidence submissions to the Planning Inspectorate and represent the Authority at Public Inquiries.

Key duties include:

  • Acting as the lead advisor and managing a caseload of Definitive Map and TVG applications and legal Orders, presenting Committee reports and maintaining the Commons and TVG registers
  • Updating and maintaining various statutory registers and other records
  • Investigating map anomalies, assisting with land searches, carrying out research at County Archives and providing support to the Countryside Access Team. 

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person. You must have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of public rights of way and highway functions and good communication and interpersonal skills.  Experience of working with GIS is essential. The ability to effectively organise your time and workload is also required.

A full UK driving licence is essential. Lone working and site visits are part of the role, sometimes involving difficult or uneven terrain. You should be willing to work outside normal office hours if required. We have a flexible working hours scheme.
