The Virtual School carries out a key statutory role for the Local Authority in regard to monitoring, advising and decision-making around the education of children and young people who are in care to the Local Authority, Our Children. In Nottinghamshire the Virtual School carries out this responsibility in large part by building and supporting the capacity, resilience and the development of best practice in education settings and across a range of other services. This challenging and rewarding work requires collaborative consultation with School Teams, Social Workers, professional networks and young people. In Nottinghamshire, the Virtual School forms part of ‘Psychology Services’, and the Virtual School team works closely alongside educational psychologists.

The Virtual School operates a leadership team which comprises the Head of Virtual School who in the wider NCC structure is a Group Manager with responsibility for Psychology Services; an Assistant Head of the Virtual School, and a Senior Educational Psychologist with particular responsibility for Our Children.

A year ago, the current Assistant Head of the Virtual School requested the option of reducing her working hours. On an interim basis, for a day a week, an existing member of the Virtual School agreed to be seconded to a job-share arrangement. A year on, with the benefit of seeing how a job-share arrangement for this strategic role can work well, the Virtual School leadership team has decided to make the post of Assistant Head of the Virtual School a permanent job-share role, initially split 4 days:1 day.

If you are interested in applying for this job-share role, and would like to find out more, please contact Charles Savage, Head of the Virtual School at charles.savage@nottscc.gov.uk or call on 0775 362 5277.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
