An opportunity to join our existing outstanding team within Clayfields House Secure Children’s Home

Help us make a difference to the lives of the most vulnerable, challenged and challenging young people in the country.  We believe that every young person can achieve positive change and we need 2 highly skilled positive thinkers and outstanding teachers to join our education team working with young people who are secured on criminal or welfare grounds. We offer an intensive multidisciplinary service to a maximum of 18 young people, male and female nationally aged 10 to 18 years placed with us either on criminal grounds or on welfare grounds because they are a risk to themselves or others.  Our latest Ofsted inspection has rated Clayfields House as “Outstanding” as a centre, the education provision has been “Outstanding” now for 7 years running. If you are child centred, positive and an expert practitioner we would like to hear from you. For both of these positions you will need to be highly organised, flexible and unruffled by a rapidly changing environment.  You will need to have experience of working with incredibly challenging young people who experience a wide range of severe social care, special educational and mental health needs.

3 days per week 2 year temporary contract, teachers’ holidays apply but are taken at different times to mainstream schools.

This temporary post is required to enable the substantive post holder to undertake increased SMT duties. You be responsible for the co-ordinating provision for:

  • pupils with special educational needs and disabilities  including the implementation of the SEND Code of Practice 2014,  0-25 Years as it relates to the secure estate from 1st April 2015
  • pupils with additional needs including those whose first language is not English
  • vulnerable pupils including those who are looked after

You must have qualified teacher status and the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators or be working towards it. We are especially interested to hear from dyslexia specialists. You will report to the Head of Education and line-manage all teaching assistants within the centre.
