Support young lives through the night. Join Oakhurst Children’s Home as a Wake Night Worker and provide safety, comfort, and reassurance to children and young people in a supportive team environment.

At Oakhurst, a warm, nurturing, and supportive children’s home run by Nottinghamshire County Council, we are looking for a compassionate and committed individual to join our team as a Night Care Worker.

Oakhurst is a specialist home providing 24-hour care for children and young people who need stability, understanding, and encouragement. As a Wake Night Worker, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, calm, and secure environment where children can rest, feel valued, and continue to thrive. You’ll work as part of a dedicated and skilled team, supporting children with complex and sometimes challenging behaviours.

You will be part of a compassionate team that values every member. Our residential workers come from various backgrounds, and we are eager to support new team members as they grow in this rewarding role. As a Wake Night Worker, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide high-quality care and support to children and young people during the night and to support them to get ready for the day ahead.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all children and young people in the home.
  • Respond to the individual needs of children and young people, including managing challenging behaviours.
  • Work collaboratively with your team to create a nurturing environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required.
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance your skills.

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • At least 6 months of experience working in a childcare setting.
  • NVQ Level 3/Diploma in Residential Childcare is preferred; if not held, you will be required to undertake this qualification.
  • Understanding of child development and the ability to support children with various needs.

  • Show empathy and understanding towards children’s experiences.
  • Work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with colleagues.
  • Be adaptable and open to learning new skills and approaches.

Working Hours and Benefits

  • This role involves working shifts from 9.45pm - 7.45am
  • You will receive enhanced pay for weekend working- time and a half on Saturdays and double time on Sundays.
