The Head Teacher and Governors of this thriving and popular junior school are looking an enthusiastic and proactive Parent Support Advisor/Attendance Improvement Officer to join the Broomhill Team.

The Core duties for the successful candidate will be to;

  • Work on ensuring excellent attendance and punctuality within Broomhill Junior School as directed.
  • Keep up-to-date with relevant legislation, including legislation on child employment, providing advice to the Head Teacher and staff and parents within the school.
  • Analyse attendance (including punctuality) data to identify emerging issues and respond proactively where there are emerging issues with individuals, families or groups of students.
  • In conjunction with the Data Manager, provide accurate data for the Head Teacher, senior leaders and class teachers so that effective management decisions can be made, challenging targets set. Ensure that Governors are kept up-to-date on emerging issues and trends through reports at Governor’s meetings.
  • Lead intervention for those students whose attendance falls below 97% including early parental involvement and the creation and implementation of action plans (with clear improvement targets) for each child.
  • Be creative in targeting resources effectively and in developing a range of strategies to re-engage those children with low attendance and to remove barriers to future good attendance.
  • Take part in and where appropriate, instigate the EHAF process for selected children and families in partnership with the appropriate staff.
  • Provide attendance information for safeguarding meetings held by the Designated Safeguarding Lead in the school.
  • Build good relationships with children and their families through regular contact and through the provision of effective advice and support, providing a mediation service between home and school where this is deemed to be appropriate.
  • Be a positive role model and consistently demonstrate the high expectations, values and ethos of Broomhill Junior School.
  • Lead strategies for the effective reintegration of children following absence and exclusion.
  • Be pro-active in developing strategies to improve home school links and to encourage parents to take a full part in their children’s education.
  • Make home visits as appropriate and under the direction of the Head Teacher and relevant staff.
  • Create and maintain appropriate working notes about home visits and other contacts with students/families. Create and maintain records as a basis for written reports about actions taken to investigate and resolve a child’s pattern of absence. Input these into electronic safeguarding files where appropriate.
  • Monitor leave of absence requests submitted by parents, liaising with the Head Teacher of the school.
  • Liaise with the Enforcement Team to prepare cases for prosecution, including preparation of relevant documentation, provision of evidence and attendance at court where necessary.
  • Through effective working partnerships, design and implement strategies to raise whole school and key group attendance and reduce persistent absence across the school.
  • Produce and interpret statistical data and use the data to produce and action attendance intervention and support plans.
