The Independent Chair Service (ICS) provides independent reviewing of the care plans of looked after children, child protection plans and plans for children in need subject to supervision orders. The ICS is located in the Safeguarding, Assurance and Improvement group in Nottinghamshire County Council. The service group also includes strategic safeguarding responsibilities including the Local Authority Designated Officer function, missing children, safeguarding children in education and child sexual exploitation.

You will be part of a team of Child Protection Coordinators who have responsibility for the coordination and chairing of child protection conferences, complex multi-agency meetings and reviews of children in need subject to supervision orders across the county. 

A professional Social Work qualification is essential, together with 5 years post qualification and management experience in child protection within a statutory setting. You will have a central role in promoting quality in child protection practice, the effective implementation of departmental and inter-agency policies and procedures, and achieving optimum outcomes for children. You will need to be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of relevant legislative and policy frameworks relating to the safeguarding and protection of children; an understanding of the role of agencies involved in such work; an ability to analyse key information; a problem-solving approach and an ability to manage your own time under pressure.  A crucial element of the role is quality assurance of child protection practice. You will need excellent verbal and written communication skills along with an ability to demonstrate independence and challenge. You will receive regular supervision and be part of a supportive team. 

This is a permanent post, initially based at Chancery Lane, Retford. You will be required to cover meetings county-wide according to service demand and may be required to relocate to other office bases in Nottinghamshire in the course of your employment.
