Could you be a professional celebrant? Then join our team.

Nottinghamshire County Council’s registration service is looking to appoint suitable people as Ceremony Officers to both conduct and register marriages and civil partnerships, as well as delivering citizenship, naming and renewal of vows ceremonies. Though not mandatory, you will also be offered the opportunity to write and deliver the eulogy at civil funeral/memorial services.

If you enjoy working with the public, are a confident public speaker, have an aptitude for accuracy and attention to detail, good numeracy skills, are presentable, professional, personable and have neat, legible handwriting – this could be the role for you. There are opportunities available now in our North (Worksop and Newark) Central (Mansfield) and South (Bridgford and Arnold) Nottinghamshire teams.

These are varied and rewarding positions that in addition to the above also require stamina and organisation skills, so we need colleagues with enthusiasm, confidence and sensitivity to work as Ceremony Officers at all of our Registration offices and approved venues in Nottinghamshire.

Full training is provided but applicants must first demonstrate exceptional public speaking skills, be able to write accurately, legibly and quickly using a fountain pen and have a good standard of basic arithmetic.

Availability is key – Ceremony Officers are part of a flexible pool of people who, in addition to our permanent registration staff, provide cover on the ceremony rota for the area they are assigned, and may even be asked to provide cover at short notice or for illness. The work is predominantly at weekends during the Summer months but is year-round, with some midweek work being available in some areas.

Please do not apply if you cannot commit to working Saturdays and/or Sundays, which may be up to two per month between April and October. For those with more flexibility – great, we’d love to hear from you.

If you think you have the skills we are looking for and are interested in making dreams a reality, apply now!

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to assessment tests; successful candidates at assessment stage will then be invited to formal interview at a later date.

The Registration service is keen to have a more representative and diverse workforce and would welcome male applicants and those of black and minority ethnicity as we are underrepresented in those and other key areas.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.

Nottinghamshire County Council strives to ensure that it goes beyond the requirements of the Equalities Act and prides itself on being accredited as a Disability Confident Leader Organisation.

Therefore, the County Council encourages applications from all, irrespective of gender, marital status, disability, race, religion, belief, pregnancy and maternity status, age or sexual orientation.
