From Teachers' mainscale to upper payscale depending on experience + TLR 2a + SEN point

There are vacancies for seven full time District SENCOs. These are new posts that have been created following an external consultant’s review of the use of High Needs Funding in Nottinghamshire and a subsequent public consultation.

The posts are open to qualified teachers who have demonstrable experience of providing appropriate support and provision for children and young people with complex special educational needs and/or disabilities. Previous experience of either the SENCO or Family SENCO role is particularly desirable. The posts are available on a job share and/or part-time basis.

Successful candidates will be part of Schools and Families Specialist Services (SFSS) and will play a key role in the development and evolution of new locality ways of working and collaborative decision-making, in relation to children and young people with SEND. These posts are intended to complement the work of the Family SENCOs and to support SENCOs in their allocated district. In addition, the post holder will provide some case work capacity to one of three specialist teams within SFSS:

  • Early Years;
  • Cognition and Learning; or
  • Communication and Interaction

Applicants are asked to explicitly state which of the above specialist strands they are applying for on their application form. There is one vacancy for a District SENCO with an Early Years specialism; four vacancies for District SENCOs with a Cognition and Learning specialism; and two vacancies for District SENCOs with a Communication and Interaction background.

If you already work for Children’s and Families Services and are intending to apply for one of these posts, please ensure that you have discussed it with your line manager in advance.

You will be expected to be very flexible and will need to be highly motivated and have a good understanding of the school curriculum at all phases. You should have a positive approach to inclusion and have a clear understanding of the strategies used to develop inclusive practice in schools and settings for pupils with SEND, particularly in relation to the specialist team for which you are applying. Although allocated to a district, the successful candidates are likely to be required to undertake case work across the county or to support a fellow District SENCO in a neighbouring district.

For further discussion please contact the relevant Senior Practitioner for the strand to which you wish to apply: 0115 854 6464.

Appointment to this post is subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Disabled applicants who meet the essential shortlisting requirements will be guaranteed an interview. A job share scheme is available for all full-time posts: both permanent and temporary, unless otherwise stated. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and we expect all staff to share this commitment and undergo appropriate checks.
