Temporary Senior Consultant Sensory Practitioner

This is a countywide role working as part of the Integrated Children Disability Service (ICDS) Assessment Team, who are responsible for assessing for and maintaining all Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) for Nottinghamshire children and young people. This position is for an initial period of 18 months with the possibility of an extension.

You will be required to:

• Carry a small caseload of highly complex cases carrying out direct sensory assessments as required.

• Have knowledge of the Children & Families Act 2014; the SEN Code 2015 and SEND Regulations 2014, as well as having an understanding and knowledge of the first tier tribunal system

• Make strong links with Education, Health & Care colleagues.

• Support senior case workers in preparing the local authority’s statement of case for tribunals in respect of sensory and neurodevelopmental needs and appropriate provision.

• Attend court as a defendant if required.

• Provide analysis and comment on independently commissioned sensory reports to inform decisions in respect of the necessity/need to fund specialist sensory provision.

• Undertake Sensory Deficit/Processing Disorder practice teaching as appropriate and to participate in the delivery of department and inter-agency training as required.

• Provide sensory based provision/programmes as necessary to support children and young people to successfully transition into new educational placements.

• Support multi-agency meetings as required.

• Undertake Sensory Deficit/Processing Disorder practice teaching as appropriate and to participate in the delivery of Department and inter-agency training as required.

• Manage the expectations of Families of disabled children and young people in relation to support and services, and to understand our graduated response.

• Be part of the Assessment Management team offering support and guidance to case workers 

We are looking for a highly motivated worker with enthusiasm to improve services for disabled children and young people. You will be highly skilled in communication and negotiation with experience of working effectively with parents/carers and disabled children/young people as well as a range of agencies and professionals. You will be qualified and have achieved accreditation up to level 3 or above in sensory integration. You will be both forward thinking and enthusiastic and assist in developing this newly established position. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a developing service that delivers the statutory EHC process.
