Temporary Social Work Support Officer ( 2.5 posts)
Currently we have three temporary Social Work Support Officers posts available.
- Post one: 37 hours based in the Court Team, June 2019 start date to cover maternity leave
- Post two: 37 hours based in the Looked After Team, immediate start date, to cover a 6-month secondment
- Post three: 18.5 hours based in the Looked After Team, covering Wednesday pm, Thursday and Friday.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and team-oriented individuals to appoint into the post of Social Work Support Officer. As part of a busy social work team, you will provide essential support to Social Workers within Children’s Social Care.
You will need to be highly-organised, flexible and able to build excellent interpersonal relationships with service users and colleagues alike. You will be required to work both under the direction of social workers and on your own initiative in supporting Social Workers in their work with children and families. This role will be the first point of contact for families and carers, and so the ideal candidate will need to be able to manage difficult conversations tactfully, respectfully and effectively.
You will be required to manage appointments, co-ordinate services and at times attend and minute meetings. You must have the ability to keep clear, up to date records and support Social Workers in completing documentation. You must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, be sensitive to the nature of the work and ensure confidentiality of information. In return you will join a supportive team and be offered guidance, training and supervision to enable you to develop within this post and provide an important contribution to the work of the team. This would be an excellent opportunity for someone who welcomes a challenging and varied job, or who would like to gain an insight into the role of Children’s Social Care.
Ideally the post holder will be educated to GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths OR provide demonstrable evidence of competency at this standard. It would be advantageous for the post holder to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook. The successful applicant will also need good typing skills. The post holder will be using Mosaic and so experience would be desirable, although an aptitude for developing knowledge would suffice. You must also possess commitment to excellent customer care and understand the concept of safeguarding children and young people.
Although this role is office-based there may be a requirement for limited travel, and so a driving licence would be advantageous.
